Recently, we were made aware of a scam targeting individuals who have closed a mortgage loan. Borrowers receive a postcard or letter urging them to call the number on the mailing regarding important, time-sensitive information on their mortgage loan. The postcard states the name of the financial institution from which they received their mortgage, making it seem authentic. These postcards are not affiliated with Town & Country Credit Union.

Why Is This Happening?

When someone closes a mortgage at any financial institution, it is considered a public record and companies can access the loan amount, property address, borrower's name and who the loan originated with. No other personal information like social security number, contact information, or account numbers are made public. At Town & Country Credit Union, we never sell or share member data with marketers.

What Should I Do If I Receive Something Similar?

You can disregard the postcard. If you're unsure if a mailer you receive is legitimate, always call your local mortgage loan officer, not the number provided, to verify. Never call a random number or send an email to someone you don't know and share your personal information.
